08 Feb 🎙️Black History Month in Podcasting
đź‘‹Hey there Podcaster!
I had a great time with Nick last week and a group of podcasters with our free ChatGPT workshop for Podcasters. Check out some info below on how to connect with us in our new monthly membership that centers around Podcasting with AI.
🎙️Black History Month in Podcasting
While the ethnicity of podcast listeners continues to diversify and expand, the amount of podcast content geared towards this demographic and representative podcast hosts aren’t keeping up. There’s a space for everyone in podcasting, behind the mic and through the earbuds. This is a missed opportunity, as a diverse range of perspectives and experiences can make podcasts more interesting, relevant, and engaging.
Here’s some steps you can take to help increase diversity in podcasting:
- Listen to a variety of diverse podcasts. Check out my short list below of some great podcasts that cover back history. Consider leaving them a review if you take a listen!
- Bring diverse guests to your podcast. Make an effort to find guests from underrepresented communities. This can help bring new perspectives and experiences to your show, and it can also help to raise awareness and promote a deeper understanding.
- Collaborate with diverse podcasters who have different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. This can help your show reach new audiences and it can help you and your audience learn and grow!
There are some great podcasts that cover black history that are podcasting year-round. I encourage to check them out, no matter what your background may be!
- Black is America Podcast hosted by our own Clubhouse Empowered Podcasting club member, Dominic Lawson. The podcast highlights little-known African-American figures and stories. This podcast helps tell the story of America through the lens of the African American experience. Be prepared to hear stories of inventors, heroes, scientists, entrepreneurs, and so many more.
- Seizing Freedom is hosted by Dr. Kidada E. Williams, a historian, author and professor of U.S. History, with a focus on African Americans. The podcast features incredible stories of Black people’s quest for liberation, progress and joy in America.
- Noire Histoir is hosted by Natasha McEachron. The podcast features reviews of books, movies, and museums that are related to Black history. It’s a trifecta of entertainment, intellectual discussion, and resonant Black history and culture.
