🎙️ Podfest 2025: A Turning Point for Podcasting and Community

This year’s Podfest felt like a real turning point for me. From the sessions I attended to the connections I made, everything seemed to click in a way that left me both inspired and motivated for what’s ahead.

🔥 Leveling Up: Insights from Podfest

I attended more sessions than ever before, prioritizing talks from the incredible people who’ve supported me this past year. While I walked away with great podcasting insights, my biggest takeaway was seeing what makes a presentation truly impactful—humor, audience interaction, and real stories of wins and failures.

Watching that in action reignited my excitement to level up my speaking game in 2025. And even though I hadn’t planned to speak at Podfest this year, I had the unexpected opportunity to MC the Monetization track on Saturday afternoon. It was an amazing experience—connecting with attendees in a meaningful way without the pressure of a prepared presentation. Big thanks to my friend Rich Perry for showing me how to make an impact as an MC at Podfest.

🤝 Community: The Heart of Podcasting

One of the biggest themes this year was community. I hosted a happy hour meetup for my Podcasting Morning Chat and Empowered Podcasting communities, and they showed up in full force! Not only did we have our biggest turnout yet, but members brought new faces and shared stories about how our work has impacted them. It was humbling and heart-filling to see this level of connection and support.

Beyond that, hearing members of my community give me shoutouts during their talks was another reminder of the difference we can make when we show up for one another. Those moments—and my time as MC—led to some exciting new opportunities, from podcast production projects to consulting with new podcasters.

🎤 Biggest Lessons & Trends from Podfest

🚀 Workshops Over Presentations
More and more speakers are embracing interactive workshops over traditional PowerPoint talks. Attendees want hands-on guidance and actionable takeaways!

💰 Monetization Strategies Are Evolving
From live streaming workflows to local audience targeting, podcasters are exploring new ways to grow and monetize their shows outside of traditional sponsorships.

📲 AI & Automation Are Transforming Podcasting
Tools like Substack for podcast newsletters and AI-powered editing & content repurposing are changing how we produce and promote our shows.

🏆 Community Wins Over Algorithms
While social media is still a valuable tool, the real impact happens in person and through niche communities. Events like Podfest remind us why relationships matter in this industry.

🎯 Final Takeaway: The Work We Do Matters

This year reminded me how much the work we do and the connections we build truly matter. It’s easy to get lost in download numbers and algorithms, but at the end of the day, community and collaboration are what drive podcasting forward.

🎤 Why Do So Many Podcasters Quit? The Truth About Podfade

Podfade. It starts subtly—episodes drop less frequently, energy dips, and before you know it, the show you poured your heart into is gathering dust.

But why does it happen? And more importantly, how can you prevent it?

On the Podcasting Morning Chat, we tackled the harsh reality of podfade and uncovered some of the biggest reasons podcasters throw in the towel.

🚨 The Most Common Causes of Podfade

🎯 Unrealistic Expectations
Many creators launch their podcast with dreams of overnight success, only to discover that podcasting is a marathon, not a sprint. Social media glamorizes the “instant hit” stories, but the reality? Building an engaged audience, let alone monetizing, takes time and consistent effort.

💡 The Fix: Focus on long-term goals and small wins. Every comment and every new listener matters.

💔 Lack of Motivation
That initial excitement of launching fades fast when faced with the reality of weekly (or even bi-weekly) production. Without clear goals, audience feedback, or tangible results, motivation takes a hit.

💡 The Fix: Reconnect with why you started. If engagement is lacking, experiment with new content formats, live recordings, or fresh social media strategies to spark conversation.

🔥 Burnout & Fatigue
Juggling podcasting with work, family, and life is no small feat. Some podcasters burn out from the production grind, while others lose interest in their niche—after all, how many ways can you talk about flounder fishing before it starts feeling repetitive? 😅

💡 The Fix: Take strategic breaks instead of quitting. Reassess your workflow—can you batch record? Outsource editing? Pivot your content to reignite excitement?

📉 Frustrating Analytics & Lack of Growth
Unlike YouTube or social media, podcast analytics don’t offer instant gratification. With limited audience data, podcasters struggle to measure success or tweak content effectively.

💡 The Fix: Set your own success metrics. Define what growth means to you—whether it’s downloads, audience interaction, or personal fulfillment.

🚀 Podfade Isn’t the End—It’s an Opportunity

Podfade doesn’t have to be permanent. Maybe you need a break. Maybe your format needs a shake-up. Maybe it’s time to pivot to video or repurpose old episodes into fresh content.

Before you call it quits, ask yourself:
✅ Am I still passionate about my topic?
✅ Is my burnout fixable with better systems or delegation?
✅ Would a short break bring back my creativity?

And if it’s truly time to step away, end on your terms. Let your audience know, archive your episodes properly, and leave the door open for a future return.
