đHey there Podcaster!
Podcasting to me, is about creating a lasting impact. In this issue, weâre diving into how you can build a podcasting legacy that extends beyond downloads, touching lives and fostering meaningful connections. We also honor the incredible legacy of Niel Guilarte, a beloved creator, mentor and community builder whose generosity shaped the Podfest world in profound ways. Plus, I discuss the challenges of (and solutions to) âShiny Object Syndromeâ. The struggle for us creators is real! And finally, in celebration of International Womenâs Day, we explore how podcasters can amplify womenâs voices and highlight The History Chicks, a must-listen show for Womenâs History Month.
đď¸ How Podcasters Can Build Their Legacy & Honor Those Who Came Before đď¸
Hey Podcasting Family,
Podcasting to me, is about leaving an impact that lasts beyond the mic. Whether itâs through inspiration, mentorship, or building a community, podcasters have the power to create a legacy that continues long after theyâre gone.
đ Building Your Podcasting Legacy
A legacy is more than just numbers or downloads. Itâs about the lives you touch and the stories you help tell. Hereâs how you can build a lasting impact through your podcast:
- Be a Mentor & Give Back Just like the best podcasters before you, make it a point to uplift others. Share your knowledge, support fellow creators, and create opportunities for new voices to be heard. Your impact grows when you help others rise.
- Embrace Action, Not Just Ideas Itâs easy to have big plans, but execution is what leaves a mark. Launch that project, start that conversation, or create the space for change. Donât waitâdo it now.
- Prioritize Community & Connection Your podcast is more than just a broadcastâitâs a relationship with your audience. Engage, interact, and foster a space where people feel heard and valued. The stronger the community, the more enduring your legacy.
- Tell Stories That Matter The most powerful legacies come from storytelling. Whether itâs sharing untold perspectives, raising awareness, or simply making someone feel less aloneâstories are the threads that connect generations.
- Live with Purpose Your podcasting journey should reflect what truly matters to you. Align your work with your values, your passions, and your mission. When you create with purpose, your legacy will take care of itself.
⨠Honoring the Legacy of Niel Guilarte â¨
This week, we also take a moment to reflect on the life and legacy of a true content creating powerhouse, Niel Guilarte. His unexpected passing has left a deep void in the Podfest community and beyond. But in his absence, one thing is clear: his light will never be extinguished.
đ§ A Champion for Podcasting and Community
Niel was a content creator, a mentor, friend, and a force of positivity. Iâve learned a lot about Niel since his passing. I learned that if you ever crossed paths with him, you likely walked away feeling inspired, seen, and valued. Whether he was coaching new podcasters, spinning tracks as the DJ at Podfest events, or simply sharing words of encouragement, Niel gave selflessly, expecting nothing in return.
As many shared during a heartfelt Podcasting Morning Chat, his impact was undeniable. His unwavering generosity helped secure the first venue for Podfest, laying the foundation for one of the most influential podcasting events in the world.
đ¨âđź Supporting Nielâs Family
As we honor his memory, we also rally around his familyâhis wife and daughterâwho now face life without him. A GoFundMe has been set up by Podfest founder, Chris Krimitsos to support them during this difficult time, and the podcasting community has already come together to surpass the initial fundraising goal. If Nielâs kindness ever touched youâor if his story has inspired youâwe encourage you to contribute, even if itâs just a small amount. Every dollar makes a difference.

đ Keeping His Light Alive
I may not have known Niel well, but I feel his legacy. I see it in the people heâs lifted up, the stories heâs helped tell, and the community he poured into. And I promise to help keep that legacy alive.
Letâs honor Niel by continuing his workâbuilding each other up, sharing our voices, and never taking this journey for granted.

đâ¨Before You Chase That Shiny New Thing⌠Read This
You set a clear goal. Youâre focused. You know exactly what you need to do.
Then…BOOM! Something new and shiny pops up, and suddenly youâre second-guessing everything.
It happens all the time.
In podcasting, in content creation, in business.
Thereâs always a new âmust-haveâ tool, strategy, or platform promising better results. And before you know it, youâre chasing that shiny object instead of mastering what you already set out to do.
Hereâs what Iâve learned after all of these years of being a âshiny objectâ chaser:
â Follow through first. Then explore.
â Perfect what youâre doing as best you can.
â Build the habit, develop the skill, get consistent.
Then, if that âshinyâ thing still looks valuable, maybe itâs time to incorporate it.
So before adding something new, ask yourself: Have I mastered what Iâm currently doing? Because jumping from one new thing to the next wonât move you forward. Execution will.
Whatâs a shiny object that distracted you recently? How do you stay focused? Reply back to this email and share with me!
đď¸ Celebrating Womenâs Voices: How Podcasters Can Amplify Womenâs Voices
If youâre a podcaster, you have an incredible opportunity to uplift womenâs stories and contributions. Here are some ways to use your platform this International Womenâs Day:
â
Feature a female guest â Highlight a woman making an impact in your industry.
â
Discuss womenâs achievements â Dedicate an episode to influential women in your field.
â
Promote women-led podcasts â Share and recommend podcasts hosted by women.
â
Address gender equality issues â Open conversations about barriers women face and how to create change.
By intentionally creating space for womenâs voices, we continue fostering a more inclusive and empowered podcasting community.
International Womenâs Day is also a moment to reflect on the impact of female podcasters who have paved the way for change. Their stories inspire and challenge us to push boundaries and create content that matters. This month I will be highlighting podcasts led by and about women. This week I am highlighting: The History Chicks
đ§ Hosted by Beckett Graham & Susan Vollenweider
Perfect for National Womenâs History Month, The History Chicks dives deep into the lives of fascinating women from historyâsome well-known, some overlooked. Each episode provides an in-depth, engaging look at the lives and legacies of women who have shaped the world, making history more accessible and entertaining for all.
