đź‘‹ Hey there Podcaster!

Last week we had our Podcaster Meetup at Brewers at Yancey in Charlotte, co-hosted with Riverside and Empowered Podcasting. Megan Shields with ChimeHouse Media helped me to plan and put on this event!

We met a lot of great podcasters that night. What I learned is there are a lot of podcasters in Charlotte, North Carolina and they are hungry for in-person local events for connection and learning from other podcasters. Maybe this event needs to be a monthly gathering? I’m open to it, and please reply and let me know if you are interested in a regular meetup in North Carolina!

🎟️ Don’t forget to get your ticket to the Empowered Podcasting Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina June 28-30!

I sat down this week to interview content queen Heather Parady. She had some candid and actionable tips for content creation that have my wheels turning! Here are some of the key takeaways from our conversation:

  • Believe in the power pivot. Heather’s life story from minister to content creator is a testament itself to believing in the power pivot. For content creation, Heather describes that consistency is only half the strategy. You can stay consistent with your goal, but be prepared to adjust and pivot with the data on what is working. Heather is candid that it’s hard work to be consistent, and even harder to be consistently improving.
  • Going viral should not be your #1 goal. Despite Heather’s videos going viral, getting 10 million plus views, Heather revealed it didn’t translate to a significant increase in followers. Why? The viral content didn’t align with her overall content strategy. Instead of chasing viral fame, focus on creating content that genuinely resonates with you and your target audience. Then work on making it pop and elevating your core message.
  • Learn to be a natural storyteller. Heather recommends taking acting and improv classes to hone your storytelling skills and learn how to use natural body language. By becoming a more engaging storyteller, you’ll effortlessly hold your viewers’ attention.

Don’t miss all of Heather’s game-changing tips on the May 21 episode of the Podcasting Morning Chat.

🧠 May Mental Health Awareness Month Highlight: Woke By Accident

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to shed light on the importance of mental well-being and to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues. This month, we highlight the podcast “Woke By Accident,” hosted and created by Jen Washington. Inspired by the tragic deaths of George Floyd and Mike Brown in 2020, Jen stepped up as a community advocate, determined to make a difference and give a voice to the voiceless.

Through her global podcast, Jen amplifies compelling stories and matters that impact African Americans and their communities. She fearlessly engages in difficult conversations needed to advance relations in matters of race, while also addressing the mental health challenges that often arise from systemic oppression and racial trauma. As a strong advocate for the community and youth, Jen’s dedication to volunteering and improving her community shines through in each episode of “Woke By Accident.” Her podcast serves as a powerful platform for raising awareness, fostering understanding, and promoting mental health support within the African American community and beyond.

Jen teamed up with fellow podcaster Sambaza to create a series specifically about mental health.
