๐๏ธ Answers Arenโt in another App

๐Hey there Podcaster!
On Monday, Ralph asked a question that sounded simple enough. How many software subscriptions are you paying for right now? Not how many you're using. How many you're paying for.
What followed was a lot of laughter, a little discomfort, and several podcasters realizing they weren't entirely sure of the answer.
As the conversation continued, people started remembering tools they hadn't opened in months, subscriptions they signed up for during a free trial, and platforms they intended to use more but never quite got around to. It was funny, but it was also familiar.
By the end of the week, I found myself thinking about that conversation again.
Not because of the software. Because nearly every discussion we had this week seemed to touch on a similar idea. Whether we were talking about wellness, AI, podcast trailers, cameras, or creator growth, there was this underlying question running through all of it:
Are we solving the right problem?

๐ธ The Things We Keep Adding
The software conversation wasn't really about software.
It was about accumulation.
As creators, we're constantly being introduced to new tools that promise to save time, improve quality, automate workflows, or help us grow faster. Most of them sound useful. Some of them genuinely are.
The challenge is that very few creators ever stop long enough to ask whether the tools they're already paying for are actually doing what they hoped they would do.
Later in the week,Ralph talked about cameras and shared something that stuck with me. He pointed out that many creators spend thousands of dollars trying to solve problems that have nothing to do with their camera. The real issue is often audio, consistency, lighting, messaging, or simply creating content people want to consume in the first place.
That's what made me keep thinking about Monday's discussion. Sometimes we convince ourselves the next thing we buy will solve the problem because that's easier than taking a hard look at what's already sitting in front of us.
What would happen if you spent the next month improving what you already have instead of adding something new?

๐ง The Creator Behind the Podcast
Tuesday's conversation with Jenn Trepeck took an interesting turn.
Jenn shared her own journey through years of dieting and frustration before eventually realizing there had to be a better answer than simply eating less and exercising more. At one point she reached a place where she felt like she couldn't possibly do more of either, which forced her to start looking at the problem differently.
I couldn't help but think about how often creators do the same thing.
When a podcast isn't growing as quickly as we'd like, our first instinct is usually to work harder. Create more content. Spend more time online. Publish more frequently. Add another platform.
Sometimes that's the right answer. Sometimes it isn't.
One of the things Jenn talked about was how our brains need the right fuel to function at their best. Focus, creativity, energy, and decision-making aren't separate from our work. They're part of it.
It's easy to forget that when we're busy. We spend so much time trying to improve our podcasts that we forget the person creating the podcast matters too.
How much attention do you give to your own energy compared to the energy you spend building your content?

๐ค What People Still Want
Podcasting continues to evolve at a remarkable pace.
The tools keep getting better, the headlines keep getting bigger, and if you're a creator, it's easy to feel like you're constantly trying to keep up with whatever was released yesterday.
What I appreciated about Jeff Sieh's perspective was that he kept bringing the conversation back to something much simpler: people.
At one point, he shared how producing Guy Kawasaki's podcast could be traced all the way back to a thoughtful comment he left on Google+ years ago. That single interaction led to relationships, new opportunities, and eventually work that he never could have predicted at the time.
It was a good reminder that while the creator economy changes incredibly fast, some things haven't changed nearly as much as we think. Platforms come and go. Features get added and replaced. New tools appear almost daily. Yet the creators who continue building meaningful businesses are usually the ones who know how to connect with people, tell stories, and build trust over time.
AI will continue to change how we create content. I don't think there's much doubt about that. But the desire for genuine connection isn't going anywhere. In many ways, as more content becomes easier to produce, the human side of creating may become even more valuable.
What are you doing today that helps people connect with you rather than simply consume your content?
